I'm writing this entry from the air! We're flying out of Winnipeg, enroute to Toronto after 3 weeks of what I will confidently call “Great Canadian Travel”! My dad and I really lucked out in our travels- November in the prairies is generally an insane time to embark on a road-trip. We were definitely prepared to face -40 degree (celsius) weather and feet upon feet of snow...but thankfully we did not! A few blustery cold winds, but over all, the temperatures were tolerable and the roads were, well, they were icy...but we stayed on them, and for that we are grateful!
Since we last spoke I put in some more time with ping pong in Boissevain, MB: I upped my highest score to a whole 6 points against 21! I am coming around to the notion that I don't need to hit the ball as though it is an evil flying vermin coming towards my face. Turns out the game less about self-defence and more about gentle but pre-meditated skill. Ok. Check. I'll keep that in mind for next time.
I also reconnected with my inner pool-shark. (By now you all should know that by “shark” what I mean is moreso “small fish with very dull teeth”). Not so great at that game either. But I rank it above ping pong by a hundred thousand points.
Oh yeah, and we also played a half dozen house concerts too! Across the board, our hosts were generous, hospitable and upbeat community makers, and we were so humbled by their kindness. Thank you to them, and also to our audiences throughout this tour who sung along and laughed at all my bad jokes! I want to give a shout out to our especially memorable audiences: in Buena Vista, SK and Montmartre, SK they demanded square dance encores! Yes, that was so fun!! They lined the stairs and balconies in Boissevain, packing the house to rafters- you guys just floored us!!
So that's a wrap! We're done and the plane is pointing it's nose to the runway- soon we'll be back in the Old Smoke! We're looking forward to our show at Musideum on Thursday, December 3rd as our grand homecoming. I can't wait to perform in our hometown to our home community, and, more immediately, to sleep in my own bed tonight!
