At long last, the time has come! My bags are packed, the car transmission is repaired, the fiddlers have been found, the route is set, my coffee supply is stacked, and I'm on my way! Today marks the beginning of an 8 week adventure into Virginia and West Virginia. With enormous thanks to Canada Council for the Arts, I'll be taking lessons from some of my musical heroes down south, and spending some gloriously unscheduled time in the mountains, writing, listening and living. To keep some element of suspense, I wont tell you who I'm planning to study and hang around with just yet- I want you to stay tuned! I'll be posting photos, thoughts, and, if things are going well enough...maybe even a video or two of what I'm working on.
Oh okay, I'll tell you ONE teacher.
After a quick visit and snuggle with my almost-nephew in Mount Joy, PA, I'm heading to Warrenton, VA to fire up a wood stove in my very own little apartment within a house that may or may not be approximately 200 years old. There, I'll rosin up my bow, and get cracking with the most incredible, and most reclusive fiddler I know: Rhys Jones.
Okay Jimmy Stewart, you ready? Let's drive.
